The Tunnel

Postcards - front 4Leake Street is a 200 meter long brick tunnel that threads its way under the tracks close to Waterloo Station. It is a convenient shortcut for pedestrians and cyclists seeking County Hall and the River Thames to the West or the market stalls and independent shops of Lower Marsh to the East. It is also the largest legal graffiti site in London.

“The Tunnel” is a documentary project that celebrates Leake Street’s vibrant atmosphere and diverse citizenry. Shot during the course of 2012 and 2013, it seeks to capture the geography of the tunnel, the artists who work there and the locals and commuters who pass through. The black and white images move beyond the often vibrant colours of street art to eloquently convey the texture and light of the space.

The Exhibition

Images from “The Tunnel” are being exhibited through March and April 2013 at The Stage Door, 28-30 Webber St, Waterloo, London.

The Stage Door is only a short walk from Leake Street, so why not take in the exhibition and also visit Leake Street to experience this special place for yourself. [map]
